HONORING ADRIANA BARRAZA
The Nogales International Film Festival proudly announces Adriana Barraza as the first recipient of our Breaking Fronteras Award, recognizing her extraordinary career as both a groundbreaking actress and director who has consistently challenged barriers for women in film.

Throughout her illustrious career, from her Oscar®-nominated performance in Babel to her powerful work across international cinema, Barraza has demonstrated how artistic excellence can transcend borders, both literal and metaphorical.

We are particularly honored to present this award during our Film on the Fence program, which shares Barraza's commitment to using cinema as a transformative force that bridges cultures and inspires change. To Adriana
Our inspiration, our hero, our north star , thank you. Thank you for showing us that barriers are meant to be broken. Thank you for reminding us that the most powerful stories often come from the margins. And thank you for proving, time and again, that a woman with a vision can change the landscape of an entire industry. This award is more than an honor; it’s a promise. A promise that your legacy will continue to light the way for all those who dare to dream beyond the boundaries of what’s expected.

The frontier was never meant to hold you. And because of you, it will never hold the ones who follow.
